How did serving in the military help prepare you for a job in the clean energy industry?
A strong team brings different skillsets and specialties together to complete a collective task, which is the cornerstone of successful offshore wind construction and maintenance operations. That concept is inherent in the military and easily transferred to offshore wind.
What advice do you have for veterans exploring a job in the clean power industry?
1. Find other Veterans in the space, especially through LinkedIn, and reach out to learn more about the industry.
2. Find and listen to industry specific podcasts that highlight industry news, challenges and processes. “The Uptime Wind Energy Podcast” helped me shoot up the learning curve as I transitioned into the industry, and I continue to listen to it today to stay on top of the latest wind-related topics.
What advice do you have for companies looking to hire veterans?
If you have one, leverage your Veteran Employee Resource Group. Use them to a. help with screening Veteran identified candidates, b. assist with Veteran recruiting strategies, and c. glean their perspectives for ERG related topics (our VERG contributed to enhancing the community service hours benefit offered to all employees).
