How did serving in the military help prepare you for a job in the clean energy industry?

Serving in the military has prepared me for a career in the clean energy industry by instilling valuable leadership qualities, work ethic, and dedication. As an F-18 Plane Captain, I worked directly with jets on the ground and later pursued a career as an Air Traffic Controller, gaining valuable experience that contributes to my current role in Human Resources and the renewable energy industry.

As a Plane Captain, I ensured compliance with OSHA regulations, and as an Air Traffic Controller, I abided by FAA regulations and now ensure that my employer, EDF Renewables, is in compliance with U.S. federal regulations and EDF Group global requirements.

As an HR professional at EDF Renewables, I advocate for employees, the leadership team, and the company as a whole to ensure compliance with global and federal regulations. I prioritize employee safety by providing training and helping write policies that promote professional development and wellbeing.

Overall, my military experience has equipped me with the skills and mindset necessary to succeed in the clean energy industry.

What advice do you have for veterans exploring a job in the clean power industry?

There are many opportunities in the clean power industry as the military does a great job of preparing you for the many available roles. You would be surprised to see how well that experience has  set you for success up given all the training that was required during your military career, especially the leadership training and opportunities.

What advice do you have for companies looking to hire veterans?

Veterans bring a unique leadership skill set to any company. We learn not only how to work alongside others and help each other out, but we also understand and value the chain of command that we are under. Additionally, we learn to get creative when obstacles get in the way.
