How did serving in the military help prepare you for a job in the clean energy industry?
Serving in the military helped prepare me for a position in this industry by giving me a wide range of skills, from administrative duties such as building work authorization forms and job safety analysis to running evacuation/casualty drills and working on equipment out in the field. The military is huge on procedural compliance, upholding standards, and regulations as well, as is the clean energy industry. These similarities made the transition from active-duty service to civilian life that much easier, as well as being part of a team that shares a common goal.
What advice do you have for veterans exploring a job in the clean power industry?
The advice I have for veterans who are interested in renewable energy is to apply now, and to not wait. Renewable energy is a booming industry and skills that veterans acquire through military service and training are invaluable to providing and maintaining clean energy.
What advice do you have for companies looking to hire veterans?
The advice I have for those looking to hire veterans is, Veterans come from being on one giant team in the service to being out on their own in civilian life. If you’d like to hire veterans or a veteran, it is in my opinion, very important that you emphasize on being a team or working together to accomplish your goals as a unit.
